NOTICE REGARDING THE MEASURES WE HAVE NOW PUT INTO PLACE TO ALLOW RELATIVES AND FRIENDS TO VISIT RESIDENTS OF THE DALES AS OF 22/07/2020

To protect our residents we now have an area of the home completely isolated from the rest. Visitors can enter the front conservatory and speak to their loved one via a newly installed intercom system, whilst being able to see each other through a large glazed panel that we have installed this week. We anticipate that many people will want to visit, especially on weekends, therefore could we ask you to telephone The Dales between 9am and 5pm on 01900 817977 to arrange a convenient time for your visit.

NOTICE REGARDING THE MEASURES WE ARE PUTTING INTO PLACE TO

RESTRICT VISITORS TO THE DALES AS OF 12/03/2020

We are now rapidly heading into completely uncharted territory, regarding how we best manage the risk of infection to our service users, from the threat of Coronavirus. We began our preparations many weeks ago, firstly by gathering together all the information we could, so that we could begin to formulate a plan. Initially by restricting delivery personnel from entering the building, whilst at the same time we provided information and signage to inform people as best we could, (given the limited information available to us at that time), then we quickly installed a temporary washbasin in the foyer with hot and cold running water so that people visiting the home have the necessary facilities to enable them to practice good hand hygiene. Most recently we have postponed all our planned events at the home, for the foreseeable future, and until we get further guidance from the NHS and central government.

The threat from this virus seems to be growing rapidly and exponentially, and we, along with many other care homes, feel that the time has now arrived where we begin to restrict the categories and numbers of people entering the home.

Obviously we need staff to be able to come into work, and healthcare professionals will also need to be able to come and go as required, however whilst it would be lovely to continue to encourage service-users family and friends to have unrestricted access to the home as we have always done, the reality of the situation is that the time has come where, on balance, and certainly not as a knee-jerk over-reaction, we feel that it would be REASONABLE to ask all family and friends of our service users to consider staying away, certainly for the next week or so, until we can better ascertain and evaluate the actual risk that this virus poses. In one residential care facility in America, that was home to approximately sixty people, already about a third of those people have sadly died from Covid 19. The reality is that once this virus is in a care home, it is too late to try to keep it out, and we, like you, would hate for us to be in the same situation as the home mentioned above.

We are here 24/7, so rest assured that your loved ones will continue to be well cared for, and you are of course welcome to contact the home at any time to enquire about them, however I think the time has come where we would respectfully ask ALL FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF SERVICE USERS TO NOT VISIT THE HOME for the next week or so, or until we can better establish where this epidemic is going and to give us time to set up alternative arrangements for visiting the home. This request is being made in the best interests of our service users, and I would like to reiterate that this is not a knee-jerk over-reaction. Prior to becoming manager of The Dales in 1986, I did train as a biologist, which is why I have been closely watching this epidemic from its earliest days, assessing the risk, putting in place PROPORTIONATE and TIMELY safeguards, and now ask that ALL family and friends of service users stay away until further notice.

OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS WE WILL BE SETTING UP SYSTEMS TO ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT LOSE TOUCH WITH LOVED ONES STAYING AT THE DALES, WHICH MAY INVOLVE SETTING UP FACETIME CALLS, SKYPE ETC.

EACH AND EVERY RESTRICTION WE PUT IN PLACE WILL BE POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE, HOWEVER THERE IS A SLIGHT DELAY IN THIS INFORMATION BECOMING LIVE, SO DO PLEASE BEAR WITH US.

I SUSPECT THAT THIS GLOBAL PANDEMIC IS NOT GOING AWAY ANY TIME SOON, SO WE NEED TO PUT IN PLACE LONGER TERM SOLUTIONS TO THE ISSUE OF VISITING LOVED ONES, AND DO REST ASSURED WE ARE PUTTING EVERY EFFORT INTO COMING UP WITH AN APPROPRIATE ‘FIX’ FOR WHAT IS BECOMING AN EVER CHANGING, AND CONTINUALLY WORSENING SITUATION.

LASTLY, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND COOPERATION IN THIS MATTER, and if you have any concerns or suggestions from your perspective as family or friends of service users, as to how best we can work together to manage this outbreak going forward, please phone me on 07814 974 843 or email me at gbiredale@icloud.com
